Overview

This collection contains documents on the know-how and techniques associated with documentary materials, management of their content and making them available to the public. Its main purpose is to respond to staff needs. However, it is also aimed at a wide audience with an interest in new practices in information sciences.

The open shelves library and information studies collection consists of around 1,300 books and 20 titles of periodicals dealing with library studies, information science and the history of libraries.

An extensive collection of over 4,500 documents is also available in the stacks.

There is a particular wealth of materials on the following topics:

library occupations, documentation centres and archives
bibliographical searching
information management
collection development
public services
IT in libraries
bibliology

The collection on the history of books is also available to users.

All open shelves documents are classified using the Universal Decimal Classification system. The documents stored in the stacks are accessible on request through the Renouvaud catalogue.

The printed collections are supplemented by an extensive array of digital resources.

IFLA publications (International Federation of Library Associations) dealing with the ways libraries, information centres and information professionals all over the world can set their objectives, exert their influence, protect their interests and find solutions to international problems

EBSCOhost e-book Collection, Sciencedirect and Taylor & Francis book collection for a selection of documents

Titles of periodicals:

RESSI and Bulletin des bibliothèques de France, Library resources and technical services, Reference & User Services Quarterly and emerlad e-journal collection, for example

Bibliographical databases:

Library, Information Science and Technology Abstracts, which contains bibliographical references as well as abstracts of articles, books, theses and reports, and sometimes the full text, and e-print in library and information science, an international database for libraries and information science with over 21,000 freely available documents.

These resources are available in the open shelves. They are easily identifiable in the Renouvaud catalogue and available remotely via a VPN for members of the university community.
